Yves Saint Laurent Cruise 2011

It was a much lighter collection than usual that Stefano Pilati sent down the runway at the Yves Saint Laurent Resort collection in New York City’s French Consulate. Bright fuchsia pink Bermuda shorts, classic shirts and bustiers were placed amongst more traditional YSL pieces such as black collared capes, strapless white dresses with ruffled pocket details and elegant pantsuits. Pilati often designs according to his mood and it seems summer was certainly inspiring. A bandeau top and long belted maxi skirt were an interesting addition to the collection and somewhat reminiscent of Jayson Brunsdon’s recent Spring Summer 2011 collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
Besides the similarities, Pilati’s talent with cut and tailoring were obvious in the beautifully sculptured skirts, blouses and jackets with pleated shoulders and an elegant silk jumpsuit. The standout piece however was a reworked Le Smoking jacket with blouson style shorts and a thin belt; classic YSL with a twist of Stefano Pilati.
