Sexuality

Welcome back fashionistas. My latest musings have been on the ad campaigns that Dolce and Gabbana have fearlessly released on the world. Focusing on sexual relationships they have tapped into a debatable subject, should an advertisement be based on impeding rape? The shot to the left has become one of the most talked about of 2009.
With Mui Mui choosing Katie Holmes to war against Victoria Beckham for Armani the Italian boys have certainly spiced up the mix. The advertisement featuring a female model being held down by several male models has caused many in the fashion world to question what importance the clothing has. But surely the boys are using this not only as a shock tactic but to provide a visual representation of the ambiance surrounding the collection.
D & G’s latest collection showcased what looks similarly like incredibly luxurious nightwear. The use of polka dots, wide leg pants and belted jackets juxtaposed the poufy skirts and tierred cardigans that appeared in the show. The use of stunning bejewelled colours continued the theme of opulence.. Deep reds, navy blues, reds and greens offset the large amount of black in the collection. The geometric theme that ran through the show was delivered through severely structured skirts, extended shoulders and tailored jackets. High waisted shorts and the almost kimono effect of long waist ties accentuated the bejewelled headpieces.Opulence, decadence and an admiration of luxury that is represented in the show is replicated through D & G’s somewhat controversial advertisements. The boys did well in entrancing us with their clothes, but a little shock and wanton desire only makes you want them more.
